ABOUT THE WOOD WE ARE USING
Our wooden products are either FSC or PEFC certified. Glue, varnish and decoration consist of melamine-dipped paper. Melamine, an organic compound, is used to make our products durable and water-resistant. We ensure the melamine is tightly bound in our products by having our products undergo a Food Contact test.
ABOUT THE LINEN MATERIAL WE ARE USING
The tea towels are made of 100% unbleached linen, a very sustainable choice of material. Linen is made from the natural fibres of the flax plant and requires less processing than silk or synthetic fibres and needs few chemical fertilizers and less pesticide than cotton. It is also hypoallergenic.
Linen is 2-3 times stronger than cotton and can last for many years with proper care. Linen is much more absorbent than cotton and makes it a perfect choice for tea towels. Our linen is printed with water-based dies.
ABOUT THE WOOL WE ARE USING
Our wool products come from farms on the island of Öland in Sweden. The wool used to be thrown away but is now collected and turned into wonderful interior design products.
ABOUT OTHER MATERIALS WE ARE USING
The dishcloths are made of 70% cellulose and 30% cotton which makes it compostable, disintegrating within 4 months.
All our products apart from the rugs are made entirely in Europe in keeping with our goal of local sourcing.
ABOUT THE CERTIFICATIONS
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, an independent, international organization with a labelling system guaranteeing that a wood based product uses material from responsibly grown forests. It indicates a social and environmental responsibility for the forests of the world and the people and animals that work and live there. The FSC stamp shows that a product has been made from wood from certified forests.
PEFC stands for the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes and is a global independent organization for the evaluation and mutual recognition of national standards of forestry. PEFC takes as its starting point conditions of the small-scale, family-run type of forestry business and is built on national standards of certification adapted to local conditions, in accordance with the guidelines of the international PEFC. PEFC is a guarantee to customers and the public that PEFC certified forests are fun in accordance with the rules of sustainable forestry and follows globally accepted ISO Guidelines for certification.
Food Contact Regulation is a set of rules within the EU that exists to make sure those materials that come into contact with food will not emit dangerous substances or in any other way affect the food. To ensure this, so-called Food Contact tests are performed.
